Q:
How does the matching process work?
Q:
A:
The matching process begins by reviewing a parent's application. More specifically, we take into consideration their indicated non-negotiables and preferences regarding the mentor. We then review all volunteer applications to create a compatible match based on shared interests, while fulfilling parent requirements. By parent request, matches made in the previous year can continue.
Q:
When does mentoring begin?
Q:
A:
We begin to accept volunteer applications at the start of September. For the remainder of the month, we then screen, interview, train, and match all volunteers. Thus, mentoring will begin during the last week of September or the first week of October.
Q:
What is the time commitment?
Q:
A:
We ask that mentors allocate a minimum of 1-2 hours per week to meet with their buddy. If a mentor is unable to meet their buddy, we ask that you coordinate with parents to continue to meet this minimum. For example, a mentor can meet their buddy for a longer period of time the following week or reschedule for another date.
Q:
What happens during exam season?
Q:
A:
We understand that school can get very stressful! If exams begin to conflict with a mentor's ability to meet their buddy, we ask that they notify them in advance and look to re-schedule at a more appropriate time.
Q:
What happens during summer and other breaks?
Q:
A:
As all of our volunteers are students, they are obliged to summer break, as well as any other holiday or school break. During these times the program will be halted and resume once the respective break is over.
